Reflections from Al Fisher in September, 2007

I think the Goldsboro District was created in 1954 from what previously were the Raleigh, Fayetteville, and New Bern Districts.

Reflections from Charles Michael Smith, September 2007

Another fascinating tidbit is that Mokie Stancill of Smithfield,  a prominent citizen and close friend of Al and all of us who served the Goldsboro District, became the chair of the District Trustees at the outset and served continuously until fairly recently.  The Committee on Superintendency was not created until 1988 or so, meaning that Mokie was our main man along with the other Trustees.  I'll never forget how thrilled Barbara and I were when we first came, needed to make some improvements, and Mokie said, "I figure that if you're sharp enough to have been appointed to this job, you're capable of knowing what you need in the district parsonage, so have at it."  And that's the way it was all 6 years.  What a welcome blessing to work with such a chairman!
